How far from other homes does a tower need to be? Also how close can I build homes near tower if it is on my property? There must be some kind of code ?

Cell tower near homes
by: deb

I have commercial property with 3 houses on my block. My tower is 12 feet from my pole barn but several hundred feet from the houses, and five feet from the empty lot that butts up against my property. I'm also in an unincorporated area. I would think the tower company should know the rules, but it doesn't hurt to contact your local township or county to find out the rules.

It depends on where you live and what your specific building code calls for. Some towns have codes that call for a specific distance, or a distance relative to the height of the tower (called a fall zone) or they may allow the tower to be placed right up against a residential building.

The only way to find out what the specific code is for your area is to call the building inspector in your town and ask them what the distance needs to be by code. Remember though that many planning boards have the authority to reduce that distance if they feel that a specific location would have less visual impact overall even if it is closer to a residential structure.

If you are concerned about the health issues relating to EMF and radio waves, don't be. If a tower is 150' tall and your residence is close to the site, the antennas are so far above your house and are projecting their signal like a flashlight into the distance, This means that the signal near the base of the tower is almost unreadable.
